What normal changes will usually happen before labor begins?
- You baby may drop lower into the pelvis.
- You may lose 1-3 pounds.
- You may need to urinate more often.
- You may have a burst of energy.
- You may have several painless "practice" contractions each day (Braxton-Hicks).
- You may have slightly more vaginal discharge.
How can I tell if I am having contractions?
A contraction is a tightening of the uterus or womb. Contractions help your baby to be born. When you have contractions, it might feel like:
- Your tummy gets tight and hard.
- You may have pain in your lower back that comes and goes.
- You may have cramping in your vaginal area like you are going to start your period.
- You may have pelvic pressure like the baby is pushing down.
