My daughter is 6 weeks old and she recently started having latch issues. I hear clicking/ smacking noises coming from her mouth and my breast. She also gulps lots of air. Any suggestions on what I should do?
“Smacking” or “clicking” noises heard during the breastfeeding usually indicate repeated breaks in baby’s latch. If your nipples have not become sore and baby continues to gain weight as she did previously, there may not be a problem. Your baby is older and bigger now, but, you may still need those positioning aids; pillows and blanket rolls under your arm, to help maintain the baby’s latch. Hold baby very close to you during the feeding so her chin actually indents your breast. Her cheeks should also be touching your breast during the feeding. Baby will take in more air if she is letting go of the breast frequently. Burping her more often during the feeding will help but I suspect your baby needs you to help her maintain her latch by holding her closer to you.
and then the anonymous and amy gustofson answered and some tags...the general. Nothing out of the ordinary.
