Was it gas or contractions? How long should I breastfeed? Can I have a vaginal birth after a c-section? There’s a lot you want to know during this time. Get the answers from one of our featured experts.

I believe I am pregnant. I am a few days before I can test however. My questions are 2 fold- 1. I am in the middle of having some extensive dental work done. I see an Endodontist on Monday to start my last root canal. That root canal will be completed in 2 visits. I am in severe pain with this tooth and that brings me to my next question. 2. I am currently taking Hydrocodone and Motrin for the pain. These are not regarded as safe in pregnancy. While I know that right now, the baby is not yet connected to the uterus, it will be shortly. What should I do both regarding the pain as well as the unfinished root canal? I had a root canal done while pregnant with my daughter but they waited for that one until I entered the 2nd trimester. I was 14 weeks along when I had that done. I am really scared and worried. I began having issues with this tooth 2 weeks ago and they thought it just needed a crown. They have me with an Endodontist for this coming Monday as the pain is unbelievable. Any advice you have would be really appreciated.

There is no need to delay needed dental work during pregnancy.  With a few exceptions, all the medications a dentist may use to perform your procedure are safe in pregnancy, and the risk of an untreated dental infection is much higher concern.  As for the Hydrocodone and Motrin, both of these medications carry very little risk to the fetus in the first 6 weeks of pregnancy.  Hydrocodone can generally be used throughout gestation.  Ibuprofen, the active ingredient in Motrin, can have some effects on the de

I have had recurring vaginal yeast infections, and also 3 bacterial infections since I've gotten pregnant. (I'm 18 week.) What am I doing WRONG? I'm feeling silly going in once a week for something that I feel like I should be able to control on my own. Is there anything I can do while I'm pregnant to take care of the recurrent yeast infections?Read More

My daughter is 9 months old and has been having skin issues for at least the past 5 months now. She recently had a terrible diaper rash her pediatrician said was some type of infection. She has also, off and on had a rash over her entire body that started on her trunk. It looks like tiny little bumps from head to toe that are bright red and dry, very rough feeling. The doctor said it was excema and we were treating her with hydrocortisone and eucerin lotion. This has not solved her issue. Lately she is refusing baby food and will only take her formula, juice and little snacks here and there. She is so uncomfortable and itchy, it looks terrible. We have switched everything to sensitive skin brands. I just wonder if there isn't something else to it? This morning she had diarrhea...very watery not just soft but liquid. I am getting worried that this is something more than just plain old excema.Read More

My daughter is almost a year old and for the last couple of weeks I have been only giving her a bottle at night when she goes to bed. I want to try to take her bottles out of the picture shortly after her first birthday. I have been told by many people that it was a bad idea. I want her use to a cup more than a bottle. Is it a bad idea or am I on the tight track?Read More

I have decided to give birth naturally using the methods and techniques taught by hypnobirthing. I just recently read in my hypnobirthing book that pushing during labor can be counterproductive. The author's explanation for this makes sense to me. However, I am recieving differing views from people who have given birth before and feel that pushing is necessary. Is this something my body will decide for me when the time comes? And will I be fighting with nurses telling me to push when my readings and classes are advising me not to?Read More

My question is 2-part: 1. If I took Kelflex (Cephalexin) 4 months ago and am taking it now, would I have developed a resistance to it so that it won't be effective now? I took 500mg 2xday then and am taking the same now - to be followed by 500 mg 1xday for the rest of my pregnancy. I am almost 23 weeks and this is being used to treat a Group B strep-related UTI. Part 2. Will this prolonged use of antibiotics (I also recently took amoxycillin) negatively impact my baby's immune system to other infections once born?Read More

My husband and I are planning on TTC again around the end of this year. I have had 2 prior c-sections(against my wishes for #2), the last being 5yrs ago. Are there any doctors in the area that will do a VBAC for baby #3? I have heard such great things about Brackenridge hospital, that I will be traveling about 1.5hrs to go here to deliver if a good OB/GYN is availableRead More

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant and at my last appointment, I only measured at a 29 week size. I have booked in for an ultra sound next week for a closer look, but is this something I should be worried about. I'm eating lots of fruit and Veg, and have exercised nearly every day through pregnancy. (just walking and light weights) Is there anything I can do to help the baby grow?Read More

I am 37 weeks and was 3cm last week. I'm prone to go into labor on my 38 week, my concern is I have no family or friends to look after my three other children and my partner will be gone for a wk or two due to work. When should I have an ultrasound done? I have been having pregnancy signs, I believe I even have had implantation bleeding but my blood test is still negative. I am now 2 weeks late with my period (which has never happened before). I have read on the net of some women who do not score positive on hCG testing and have had ultrasounds done (which identified the baby). Please advise?Read More
